Corporate Parenting workshop for all councillors
Elected members will recognise the significant role they play as corporate parents to some 870 children in the care of Gloucestershire County Council and 500 care leavers. This Local Government Association workshop will give elected members the opportunity to explore what being a good corporate parent really means and consider ways to maximise their impact for children growing up in care and entering adulthood.
The same workshop will be delivered on two occasions to offer everyone the chance to attend virtually on either Thursday 20th April 10am to 12pm or Thursday 27th April 5pm to 7pm and will cover:
What does it mean to be a corporate parent?
- Good enough for my child?
- Numbers, demographics,
- Outcomes of the wider population
- What do I need to know…? Balancing children’s rights with information councillors need
- How can elected members can use data and QA to understand needs, promote good outcomes and manage risk
- Legislation and governance
Championing children in the community: creating opportunities, promoting best practice, addressing barriers
- Schools and EET opportunities, foster carers, VCS
- Pledge and Care Leaver Offer
Ensuring improved outcomes: retaining oversight, hearing the voices of children and young people, working with officers, privacy, and confidentiality.’’
