Lone Working
Lone work does not automatically imply a higher risk, but it is generally understood that working alone does increase the vulnerability of councillors to hazards, the outcome of which could be more severe due to a lack of assistance.
Lone working should be avoided in the first instance and consideration should always be given to teaming up with a ward or group colleague, or another person who can accompany you. In the event that lone working cannot be avoided you should consider the following advice:
- Ensure someone knows your whereabouts and how long you will be and make regular check-in call and ask them to call at regular intervals.
- Maintain a shared appointments diary with the full details of your plans and who you will be meeting.
- Carry a fully charged mobile phone for communications/to raise alarm.
- Download personal safety app (e.g. Hollieguard)
- Carry any critical medication.
- Remain vigilant of your surroundings and trust your instincts.
