About Us
Gloucestershire Advisory Teaching Service: Providing specialist teaching support for children and young people with SEN, disabilities and additional needs.
As part of the Specialist Teaching and Educational Psychology Service (STEPS), we work closely with our colleagues in Educational Psychology to support children and young people with additional needs.
The Advisory Teaching Service provides advice and support through a consultation model for schools, children and their families. We work with schools and settings to support children and young people’s learning, development, and emotional well-being.
Advisory Teachers work with individual children and young people aged 0-25 (please refer to individual team criteria) to assess their needs and to advise on strategies and interventions to support any SEND needs identified. They use the Assess, Plan, Do, Review model to inform their work. This may include delivering training and coaching to individual teachers and adults working with the child or young person, or to review whole school SEND policies and processes. The Service works closely with colleagues in Health and Social Care who may also be supporting the child and/or their family. Separate specialist team (C&I, SEMH, C&L) advice lines for professionals operate every afternoon during term time.
