Physical Disabilities (PD)
The team for children with a Physical Disability needs is part of the Advisory Teaching Service. Support is available for children and young attending mainstream settings (upwards from terms 5 and 6 of the pre-school year) who can be at all stages of the graduated Gloucestershire Pathway for SEND (see criterion for requests for involvement).
6.35 Some children and young people with a physical disability (PD) require additional ongoing support and equipment to access all the opportunities available to their peers.
What we do:
- Work in partnership to develop practice so learners with physical disability access activities with their peers, secure good outcomes and work towards achieving their dreams and aspirations
- Support, advise and empower staff in schools and settings to understand the needs of children and young people with physical disabilities
- Provide advice in relation to the child or young person’s physical disability and learning needs
- Ensure that the views, perspectives and experiences of the children and young people are fully reflected in their provision
- Loan and demonstrate specialist resources including how to adapt educational materials when/if necessary
- Settings can call the team during the week for no-names advice.
The team consists of:
- Specialist Advisory Teacher
- Occupational Therapists via a Service Level Agreement (SLA)
We have high aspirations for the achievements of children and young people (CYP) with a physical disability and feel that a physical disability should not prevent them from thriving, reaching their full potential, and having fun whilst they learn.
