Care Leavers Month | November 2025
Gloucestershire EPS : National Care Leavers Month
Gloucestershire Educational Psychology Service are providing a focus on supporting National Care Leavers' Month this November (previously National Care Leavers' Week). This is newly extended to a month allowing for more sustained awareness, support, and celebration of leavers across the UK.
We recognise the importance of celebrating the achievements of young people leaving care and the importance to raise awareness of their experiences. We value the commitment a month provides in allowing for more voices to be heard and more connections within the care leaver community, and in addressing the "care cliff" many care-experienced young people face when transitioning out of the care system towards independent living.
Our focus here on research which has gained the voices of Care Leavers, indicates that Carers can provide vital and long-lasting, positive benefits for supporting Care Leavers with their future education. Developing some life-skills allows them to be more prepared for the demands within their future learning.
See below our leaflet created for Foster Carers with pointers from the research in some of the skills and tasks that best help in preparing care leavers for transition to further or higher education. With links also, to information and support services nationally and in Gloucestershire.
