Getting Started

Who do I notify?

If your child is about to reach compulsory school age and has never been registered at a state school, you do not need to notify us, however, you are welcome to make contact and then we will be able to offer information and guidance if needed.

If you move to an area served by another Local Authority (LA), and currently work with an EHE Officer then we would appreciate you notifying us by completing the De-Registration from EHE form so the officer can be informed.

If your child is currently attending school, you must write to the head teacher of that school notifying them that you have decided to Home Educate your child and that you wish for their name to be removed from the register.

The name of your child will be removed from the register and we will be informed by the school. If you change your mind after that time you will have to re-apply for a school place through the in-year admissions process School admissions and places at the same school may not always be available.

Parents of children who attend a Special School, or are subject to a School Attendance Order, require the LA's permission to educate them at home. As this is slightly different, please contact us for further help and advice.

Parents who are home educating their child but decide that they no longer wish to do so need to notify the LA. The De-Registration from EHE form needs to be completed
