Residents and businesses invited to shape the future of parking in Moreton-in-Marsh
Parking pressures near the high street and railway station have made it increasingly difficult for local people to find spaces, with pavements being blocked by cars creating safety concerns within the town. The Moreton-in-Marsh Town Council Transport Strategy has also identified parking pressures in the town centre as a key concern.
With the increasing visitor demand, the county council wants to ensure parking arrangements are fit for the future, protecting the needs of residents and businesses while also ensuring disabled bays are located close to key destinations to support those with mobility needs.
An online survey is now open to gather your feedback and closes on Sunday 12 July 2026.
The feedback gathered will be used alongside technical analysis of current parking conditions, usage patterns and pressures across the town centre and surrounding areas to develop a range of concept designs for potential improvements.
The review is currently at the feasibility stage and will also explore opportunities to introduce cycle parking and electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities, supporting greener and more sustainable travel choices. Any concept designs produced at this stage are preliminary and will be subject to further consultation before any decisions are made.
This work aligns with the Moreton-in-Marsh Town Centre Transport Strategy, which aims to create a vibrant town centre by making it easier to get around and improving public spaces.
Cllr Roger Whyborn, cabinet member for sustainable transport and road safety at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “Parking is an important issue in Moreton-in-Marsh, and we know it can be frustrating for residents, businesses and visitors when spaces are hard to find or streets feel unsafe. This review is about listening to people and working together to find the right balance, so the town continues to thrive while meeting everyone’s needs. We’re particularly keen to make sure parking supports local businesses, improves safety and is accessible for those who need it most. I’d encourage anyone with a view to take part in the survey and help shape future plans.”
