Direct payments policy

The purpose of the Direct Payments Policy is to provide guidance for Adult Social Care staff in the management and administration of setting up direct payment arrangements.

Through direct payments people can receive money with which to

  • arrange their own domiciliary care;
  • employ their own personal assistant;
  • use a self employed personal assistant; or
  • to buy a service that meets their assessed needs.

This means that they get control of the funding and the care package and this gives them an incentive to make sure the funding is spent properly on services they need as detailed in their support plan. The aim of direct payments is to increase opportunities for independence, social inclusion and enhanced self-esteem.
