Care at home

Care in your own home can help you retain your independence. It can offer the opportunity to stay at home, in your own familiar surroundings, whilst getting the support you need to stay happy and safe.

Home care can be tailored to meet your needs. It can range from a once-a-day visit to a larger amount of support.

Having an adult social care assessment can assist you in determining what care and support you might need. If you are eligible for financial help from the council, using direct payments can give your more control over the support you have.

Personal care and support with daily tasks

You may benefit from personal care if you need some help with everyday tasks such as:

  • personal care and hygiene, such as getting out of bed, getting dressed and washing
  • medication and prescriptions
  • meals and shopping
  • housework and gardening
  • attending clubs and social groups.

A care worker can be assigned to support you with these tasks, to help you maintain your independence.

Occupational therapy can also help to improve your ability to do everyday tasks if you're having difficulties.

Live-in care

Live-in care involves an experienced care worker moving into your home to provide help 24 hours a day. They can assist with personal care, housekeeping and companionship, allowing you to stay comfortable and independent in your own home.

This means there is always someone on hand helping you with your daily living, ensuring your care needs are met, and giving you peace of mind.
