New care home development
The County Council is investing £57 million to build three brand new care homes in Gloucestershire. Our aim is to create more modern, welcoming places where older people can truly feel at home - somewhere they can receive high-quality care while staying close to the people and communities that matter most to them.
Why are we building these care homes?
This investment is part of our long-term plan to improve care services and ensure there are enough specialist facilities to meet the needs of our growing older population. As more people are supported to live at home for longer, those entering care homes often have more complex health and care needs, including dementia, frailty and long-term conditions. These new homes will help us meet those needs safely, respectfully and sustainably.
What will the care homes be like?
Each home is being designed to support people with higher levels of need while also promoting dignity, independence and wellbeing. Features will include:
- Dementia‑friendly layouts
- Fully accessible design
- Therapeutic outdoor spaces and gardens
- Modern clinical and care facilities
Everything has been carefully planned to help residents maintain as much independence as possible, even when living with significant care needs.
Where will the new homes be built?
We will be building new care homes in:
- Stonehouse (former Elms Care Home site)
- Cinderford (former GIS site)
- Tewkesbury (Coombe Hill).
