What is a learning disability?

A learning disability affects the way people learn new things throughout their life.

Some people with a learning disability may have problems with:

Communicating with people.

Understanding difficult information.

Learning new skills.

Aims of the Learning Disability Partnership Board

Gloucestershire will lead the way in co-production with people with learning disabilities and their carers.

We do this to make sure they can:

Access communities safely.

Have choice about where they live and the services they receive.

Live independent lives.

Have the same rights as everyone else.

Co-Production Means

Bringing a group of people together to find a way of solving something that impacts them.

This could include making sure a new service works well for a person with learning disabilities.

Good Co-Production Involves:

Asking people who use services what matters to them.

Involving people who use the services in the planning.

Making sure people who use the services are involved from the start to the end of the project.

What is the Partnership Board for?

The Partnership Board makes sure there is a plan in place.

We've called this The Big Plan 2022 - 2025.

The plan makes sure people work together to make things better for people with a learning disability in Gloucestershire.  It can be downloaded from the list of useful documents.

The Partnership Board gives people a chance to  have a voice and ask questions.

Rules of the Partnership Board

Everything must be in Easy Read.

People must use words everyone can understand.

People should not use acronyms.

Acronym means the first letters of a word - for example 'FYI' which means 'for your information.'

Do not use words that only people who do your job will know.

People should not use big words.

People should not talk too fast.

People can shout out if they do not understand what people are saying.

It is important to have breaks.

Everyone must make sure people with a learning disability can speak up and give their opinions.
