Previously funded projects

The fund was first launched in February 2024. The projects below were successful as they demonstrated excellent value for money,  outlined how they would reduce carbon emissions and they had an active approach to outreach and community engagement. 

🤎Leckhampton High School Ridan Composter - The school will installed an in vessel composter that allows food and garden waste to be composted within the grounds. The school eco-club help manage the composter and get involved in the processing of the food waste learning more about how food impacts climate. The school has 400 pupils. 

⛏Newent Library of Things - The Recycling Shop CIC will expand it’s current provision to create a rental library of objects that can be utilised by the local community.

⚡ Pineholt Village Hall Energy Conservation Showcase - Hucclecote parish council have retrofit their village hall to make it more energy efficient. They have  put on open days for parish councils and the public to show how energy conservation can be achieved and what they have done at the village hall. 

🛠Twynings Mens Shed Repairs - Received a contribution to tools and the general running of the shed. This allowed the shed to cater for 15 additional volunteers to repair items brought in,  reducing the amount of new items purchased locally. 

🏠Gloucestershire Association of Town and Parish Councils - Developed climate training for Gloucestershire's town and parish councillors on reducing carbon within parishes. Also purchased infrared cameras available to GATPC members to monitor heat loss in community buildings. Find out more here. 

🌎Stroud Valleys Project Carbon Reduction Hub - A carbon reduction hub in the centre of Stroud will provide advice to local residents businesses and community groups on lowering carbon emissions.

☀ Winchcombe Solar Panels - Installed solar panels on a listed public building to showcase how this can be extended across the county.

 ☀ Strategy and Evolution pop up event solar panels - Solar panels and associated equipment to replace diesel generators at large local scouting events, and other events. 

🍓Project Grow CIC - Local food growing project that provides food for local cookery classes run through Wiggly. Vegetables were supplied to 800 meals made within 1 mile of where they were grown in 2024/25. 

🚲Coleford cycle shelter and town centre wellbeing - Installation of a wooden cycle shelter with a sedum roof and space for insect hotels and bird boxes. This is part of a wider transformation to encourage active transport within Coleford. 

👩‍🏫St. Johns Academy school advocacy project - Year 6  students attended 8 classes on climate change. These included visits from experts to learn about the  carbon cycle. Information was sent home to parents to help support families to reduce their own carbon. 

🚆Train Tripper - Gloucestershire Community Rail Partnership engaged with 30 businesses to increase the use of rail. nearly 3 tonnes of carbon were logged as saved using the train tripper app during the project in 24/25.

🥁Soldiers Of Gloucestershire Museum - installing motion sensor detectors throughout the public areas of the museum and so the lights switch off when the area is not in use. Each museum gallery will have an information notice explaining about the use of LED lighting and motion sensors and each individual signage in the museum galleries will have a “handy tip” to encourage others how they can reduce their carbon footprint at home.


⚡Severn Wye Agency -ECO boost living: working with local community members to promote and install Eco Boost measures in homes across the county. They will spread the word about their project through social media and collect quotes and stories from some of the community members. They will then promote these stories on social media and their website to inspire and show what people can do in their own homes to save carbon and money. 


🧵Gloucestershire Resource Centre - Fabulous Fabric Re-use: re-use initiative to promote using fabric from GRC Scrapstore, rescued from local industry. It will include 3 Saturday fabric sales, 10 Social Dressmaking sessions and 6 Textile Café sessions over the course of the year. They will promote the project on social media and showcase the ideas and projects that have been created during the sessions to provide inspiration to others. They will also promote the scrapstore as a place that will accept household donations of textiles and crafting resources from individual households as well as local businesses 


🛠 Brockworth and Churchdown Repair clinics and workshops: The project is a shared vision for both cafés to enable them to provide regular bicycle repair clinics and sewing repair workshops.  The aim is to teach local people who cycle or who use the repair cafes to mend a variety of garments. They will be offering volunteering opportunities to local children who are participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme and using social media to spread the word. They will also post flyers in identified areas of deprivation. 


🌎Hucclecote Parish Council - encouraging local residents to reduce waste and live more sustainably through coffee mornings, events, social media, pop up repair café and celebrating 'no car day'. 


⛏The George - Newnham on Severn - This is a community hub that aims to offer carbon literacy training and ongoing support sessions, alongside setting up a sharing hub for tools, appliances and other resources.  


💚Emmaus Gloucestershire - People shed sustainable workshops. Delivering workshops on furniture restoration, repair, crafting from recycles materials etc. They will be spreading the word via social media and leaflet drops at checkout at each store.


🛠 Vision 21 - ‘Share and Repair’ Circular Economy Project Coordinator. Vision 21 currently runs a number of community based initiatives that support transition to a circular economy. These include a repair cafe network, Library of Things, furniture, white goods recycling and paint resale. At present, the charity has no funding to promote, extend or develop these projects which provide vital services to many Gloucestershire residents and form the building blocks of a transition to a fully circular economy. Funding from GCC would enable a part-time coordinator to spend time on marketing, promotion and growth of these initiatives across the county.

🌎Stroud Valley Project - Carbon Reduction Community Hub - Creation of an inclusive, supportive outreach project based at existing, well-attended community spaces, through which people can get advice on reducing carbon emissions (focussed on transport, food, and energy use), in an environment they trust.  The grant will fund a staff member to deliver and develop the project from April 2025 -January 2026 (10 months).

🚲 Leckhampton Scouts Bike Shelter - installing bike racks and a bike shelter. They will combine the installation of the bike racks and shelter with an awareness campaign amongst members of the health and environmental benefits of cycling to and from their weekly scout group. 


👨‍🍳'Cooking Green' Trinity Cheltenham Trust -  This project aims at reducing our community kitchen carbon footprint by investing in an electrical cooking range solution. The funding will cover an electric cooking range ( + installation & connection fees, and disposal of the old gas cooker) alongside a professionally designed external interpretation board. 


📚Berkeley books - Funding for solar panel battery storage. We have secured alternative funding to install Photo-Voltaic panels, inverter, heat pump and heat recovery ventilation systems, however this funding has enabled us to install batteries to improve the efficiency of the overall system. These will store surplus electricity for use when the building is operational, as the PV panels face west batteries will create a significant additional impact. 


🔆Gretton Village Association- The Village Hall is heated by electric panel wall heaters. The grant funding is to replace dated electrical panel heaters with modern WIFI controlled highly efficient equivalents.


☀ Weston sub-edge village hall - 40 solar panels and a single 13.5kwh battery were installed in March 2024. They are saving approximately 3.3 tonnes of carbon, and half the village hall’s electricity bill each year. This funding will allow the purchase, install and commission a second solar battery.  


🚌Busses4Us Daffodil line - this project reduces carbon emissions by encouraging people who have access to a private car to leave the car at home and choose the bus instead. 


🥕FWAG zero dig project - The project is now in its 2nd year, providing horticultural produce with very low food miles and short supply chains to the RAU, local projects and the local community. This funding will allow installation of 5-7 composting bays for large volume composting, rainwater harvesting, GAS testing, and communication activities (including a free to attend composting open day event) to encourage people to try ‘no dig’ growing and composting.


🧷Stitch and Stir roadshow ( Stroud Valley Project)  A Stitch and Stir Roadshow will reduce carbon across Stroud District by showing people how to upcycle clothing and showing them how to cook reduced-waste meals. 


⚡Transition Stroud community energy project - Stroud Area Community Energy Network (SACEN) is an affiliate group of Transition Stroud, led by 12 volunteer experts who work to support the growth of community energy projects in the Stroud area. 


💡The Orchard Trust Energy Project (boiler control programme) 

Installing weather compensation controls and heating circuit deaerators on 8 boilers across the Trust sites including residential care homes, a therapy suite, day service centre and administration offices.


👯‍♂️Community cheer and dance academy - (Insulation upgrade)

Upgrading their insulation, creating a warmer, more energy-efficient environment and running a celebration day that highlights the sustainable upgrades to the building.
