Making your home more energy efficient

Why do we need to save energy?

Much of the energy we use on a daily basis comes from fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas).

These are non-renewable sources of energy. Burning fossil fuels pollutes the environment and impacts air quality, which can damage our health.  It releases carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas that contributes towards global warming and climate change.

There are now lots more sources of renewable energy, like wind farms and solar farms. These all take up space and need lots of resources to make them, so we still need to reduce the amount of energy we use.

Scheme overview

This scheme aims to help homeowners assess the thermal efficiency of their homes by highlighting areas in their property that could benefit from retrofitting.

The project uses thermal infrared cameras to help quickly spot where heat is escaping or entering a property, identifying areas that would benefit from energy efficient upgrades.

These improvements could help to make homes more energy efficient, lower energy bills and reduce carbon emissions.

Find out how to borrow the camera here on the Forest of Dean district council website.
