Planning

The Climate Leadership Gloucestershire (CLG) planning theme is focused on the need for joint working to deliver increased sustainability in planning policy and decision making in Gloucestershire.

The case for swift progress towards net zero buildings is clear and clearly stated within the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, Climate Change Act 2008 and the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). All of which provide drivers for the preparation of long-term strategic plans and how they, and the determination of planning applications ‘contribute to the mitigation of, and adaptation to, climate change’.

Furthermore the delivery of other key strategic themes such as transport and energy will need to work in close alignment with, and ultimately be delivered through, the delivery of our Gloucestershire wide local sustainable development ambitions.

For CLG the focus is therefore to explore how by working in partnership we can utilise the plan making process to achieve common goals in delivering climate change mitigation (and adaptation).
