Journey to net zero
Gloucestershire County Council declared a Climate Emergency in 2019. The Gloucestershire Local Transport Plan commits to develop an emissions reduction pathway to deliver on the commitment to reduce per capita transport carbon emissions by 2045. Journey to Net Zero is a routemap summary for transforming travel in Gloucestershire, summarising a programme of work to reduce the impact of transport on climate change.
The county council has committed to reducing carbon emissions from all sources in the county to net zero by 2045 and to reduce emissions by 80% by 2030, relative to 2005. Through Climate Leadership Gloucestershire, the council works with partners to take forward Gloucestershire’s response to the climate emergency. The county council is leading on decarbonising transport.
The Decarbonising Transport Forum ‘Journey to Net Zero’ was held in July 2022 to discuss with key stakeholders how to decarbonise transport by working together with groups across the county. A summary engagement feedback report provides further detail on the comments and discussion on the scale of the challenge. The event aimed to start a conversation about decarbonising transport in the county. You can view the decarbonising transport forum presentations.
To continue engagement we issued a public engagement survey. Reducing Transport Carbon Emissions Public Survey Report (2023) summarises the public feedback to the potential interventions to reduce transport emission in the county and reach net zero by 2045.
