Resettlement
Rental homes are required for vulnerable refugees who have been assigned for resettlement by the United Nations.
This is managed through the United Kingdom Resettlement Scheme (UKRS), and is open to vulnerable refugees from around the world offering a safe and legal route for those in need of protection.
- The Home Office provides funding to local authorities for five-years per person.
- Resettled refugees are granted indefinite leave to remain and refugee status on arrival in the UK.
- People arriving via this route only move to the UK once suitable accommodation has been identified and is ready.
Landlords are asked to commit to a 12-24 month arrangement (preferably longer) and in return all properties will be painted, carpeted and furnished to the tenants’ needs. Landlords are paid the Local Housing Allowance and all monthly rental payments are paid directly to the landlord’s bank account.
Properties are managed by Gloucestershire Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (GARAS) who will support the landlord and tenants throughout the tenancy.
Private landlords who have affordable, self-contained, ready to let property can contact Ismail Ali at GARAS for more information on 07565 808605 or 01452 550528, or email ismail@garas.org.uk.
