Gloucestershire Green Skills Conference: Experts offer insights and inspiration as new Green Skills Strategy launches

The Green Skills Conference 2026, hosted by Cllr Linda Cohen and Cllr Julian Tooke alongside colleagues from across Gloucestershire County Council, took place at the University of Gloucestershire City Campus earlier this month.

Bringing together leaders from education, business, industry and the public sector to explore the future of green skills and sustainable careers, the event was a tremendous success with more than 200 attendees from a wide range of sectors, including education, business, farming, technology and innovation. The conference provided an important platform for educators, employers, industry experts and policymakers to explore the skills needed to support Gloucestershire’s transition to a greener economy. 

Delegates enjoyed an inspiring programme of keynote presentations, expert panel discussions, interactive workshops and networking opportunities with a wide range of exhibitors. A key highlight of the day was the launch of Gloucestershire’s new Green Skills Strategy, reinforcing the county’s commitment to developing the workforce needed for a sustainable future.

Gloucestershire County Council Is committed to delivering on the momentum of the conference. The strategy aims is to make it easier to develop and deliver green skills training through the new federated faculty, promote this in a concise and easily consumed way by documenting and promoting all green skills on a single outward facing web portal and encourage support from business and industry through promotion of the Green Skills Pledge.

The conference showcased Gloucestershire’s many strengths and demonstrated the power of collaboration in addressing future skills challenges. The vibrant exhibition and networking area enabled attendees to share ideas, build partnerships and explore practical solutions for supporting green careers across the county.
