Funding for Natural Flood Management in Gloucestershire
Enhancing our river catchments to become fit for the future requires us to work in partnership. This includes working closely with farmers, landowners, land managers and local communities.
The Gloucestershire Natural Flood Management Partnership is able to fund Natural Flood Management projects through the Gloucestershire Natural Flood Management Grant Scheme. These grants are open to any organisation, landowner or land manager, with a Natural Flood Management project which meets the criteria set out below.
The grants are aimed at projects ranging from £1,000- £15,000 but larger projects can also be considered where there is significant flood risk reduction or habitat creation.
We welcome proposals for projects that embrace the Working with Natural Processes Framework and align to Gloucestershire's 10 Principles for Good Natural Flood Management Delivery.
Further guidance on project delivery can also be found in our Project Checklist.
Our funding is for capital projects and directly associated costs. This can include elements such as materials, labour costs, equipment hire, monitoring and project management costs linked to the delivery of the work.
We cannot currently fund work which is not directly connected to the delivery of capital projects, such as feasibility work, research or staff salaries. We are also unable to pay ongoing revenue payments for income forgone on land provided for Natural Flood Management projects, although the Partnership may be able to help you explore other avenues such as the Environmental Land Management Scheme (ELMs), green finance or supplementary grants if available.

Deadline for applications
The Gloucestershire Natural Flood Management Grant Scheme has launched with £100,000 available, with the intention that it will be topped up as and when more funding can be found, and successful projects are delivered.
There is no formal deadline for applications, however due to restrictions on the total amount of funding available, it will be allocated to the first projects that come forward and meet the stated criteria, until it has been spent. We will announce publicly if and when the fund has closed.
