Emergency Planning at Gloucestershire County Council

About Us

The Emergency Planning Team is responsible for making sure the County Council meets its legal responsibilities under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004, as a Category 1 Responder, to prepare for and respond to emergencies effectively.

Emergencies considered include anything from floods, fires and storms to gas explosions, power cuts and transport accidents. As a Category 1 responder, the County Council has a responsibility to:

Assess the risk of emergencies occurring and use this to inform contingency planning and put in place emergency plans

decorative Put in place arrangements to make information available to the public about civil protection matters and maintain arrangements to warn, inform and advise the public in the event of an emergency

Share information with other local responders to enhance co-ordination and co-operate with other local responders to enhance co-ordination and efficiency

Provide advice and assistance to businesses and voluntary organisations about business continuity management (NB applies only to local authorities)

To do this, the Emergency Planning Team support the development, review and testing of emergency plans, and train County Council staff to be able to effectively support the response to emergencies. The team also works with multi-agency partners as part of the Local Resilience Forum.
