Community Resilience
Community Emergency Planning
Many communities already help each other in time of need, but experience has shown that those who have spent a bit of time preparing a simple Community Emergency Plan (CEP) are able to respond more effectively and recover more quickly from emergencies.
A Community Emergency Plan is an action plan created by local residents that outlines how the community could respond to an emergency in the first instance and support each other until emergency services arrive. This plan could include key contacts, resources, places of safety, and practical steps to help people stay safe and support each other.
The Emergency Planning Team worked together with other Local Resilience Forum partners to provide a community resilience toolkit. This toolkit includes a simple community emergency plan template and guidance document for the communities of Gloucestershire who would like to produce their own - Community Emergency Planning. Get in touch with your local Parish or Town Council to find out if a plan already exists in your community.
Further information is also available via the Government’s website and Gloucestershire Rural Community Council's website.
Volunteering
If you're looking for a volunteering role in the world of emergency preparedness and response, look out for any local groups in your area, or join volunteer with an organisation such as the British Red Cross or St John Ambulance.
It's important to remember that emergencies can have long lasting physical and psychological impacts on communities and the recovery from an incident can be ongoing for a long time post-incident.
